Harm reduction: Toward the Heart
Alouette Homes, located in Maple Ridge, B.C., supports people requiring long-term involuntary care with a safe, home-like setting and specialized care that meets their unique needs.

Providing specialized care to people who require additional supports
Alouette Homes is a tertiary-care, mental-health facility for up to 18 people who meet the criteria for involuntary care under the Mental Health Act. These are people who have severe and persistent mental health disorders, often combined with other challenges, such as addictions and brain injuries, that may impact their behaviour and ability to interact safely with others.
Safe and supportive care at Alouette Homes
To deliver this new program, we are pleased to be partnering with Connective, a community-based nonprofit with several decades of experience providing holistic, collaborative, person-centered, and trauma-informed support to people with complex needs.
In this partnership, VCH provides operational oversight and appropriate physical and mental health care and associated medical staff, including nursing, psychiatry, addictions medicine and primary care for the clients living long term at Alouette Homes.
Connective is responsible for co-designing the program and running the day-to-day operations, which includes support activities of daily living such as getting dressed, life skills, recreation and leisure activities. Learn more about Connective.

Visiting information for families
Alouette Site Homes values the importance of social connection in promoting recovery, community integration, and psychosocial health. Residents are warmly encouraged to welcome friends and family to visit them at the homes.
To help ensure a positive experience for everyone, ideally families and residents are asked to communicate with staff in advance when planning visits. This allows for the provision of timely and individualized support, including ensuring that appropriate staffing is available to accommodate the visit, helping avoid disruptions or disappointment.
