Hilltop House Overnight Respite Program offers caregiver relief. We offer your loved one an opportunity to stay with us while you have a brief period of rest and relief so that you can continue to provide good care upon their return.

What to expect

Services available:

  • Nursing care
  • Wound care
  • Special diets
  • Medication management

Three days minimum stay for both initial and subsequent stays. 

Clients are welcome to stay a maximum of 30 days in a calendar year. Clients should bring their own wheelchair or walker for use during their respite stay. Please notify your Case Manager of any changes to your care needs or contact information prior to booking subsequent stays.

Check in and check out information

Clients generally check in between 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. and check out by 10 a.m.

Times can be flexible to accommodate work commitments and other scheduling needs.

Payment process

Clients are invoiced for their stay in respite. There may be additional charges for the following:

  • Pharmacy will invoice for medications dispensed during your respite stay

How to access

  • Check eligibility

    • Adults living in a Coastal Community of Care who are currently being cared for at home
    • Caregivers in need of temporary relief from the demands of caring for a friend or relative
    • Clients assessed by a VCH Home and Community Care Case Manager
    • Clients who are medically stable

    Note: Caregivers making travel or vacation plans should consider cancellation insurance or have an alternative plan and contact person in the event the client’s condition deteriorates or becomes unstable and they are no longer eligible for a respite bed.

Located in a tranquil setting with beautiful mountain views Hilltop House is accessible by car and transit.  Pay parking is available.

Hilltop House

Hilltop house is a two story building with section built in 1984 and an addition in 2009. It is connected with a walkway to Squamish General Hospital.
