What to expect

  • Your child's first visit

It is common for kids (and adults) to feel nervous about the dentist. Our team is trained to help children feel calm and safe. We see children within 6 months of the first tooth growing in or at 1 years old, whichever is first.

  • Before the visit

When you book an appointment, we will ask for:

    • Fill out our Patient Eligibility Application Form
    • Your photo ID (Parent/Guardian)
    • Address confirmation that shows you live in the Vancouver Coastal Health area
    • Confirmation of household income

To book an appointment, call the clinic at (604) 675-3981. Translation services are available at our clinic.

  • During the visit

    • At your first visit we will ask you to fill out a health form for your child.
    • A dental assistant will talk to you about your child’s oral health and any concerns.
    • We will check your child’s chance of getting cavities.
    • We will teach good brushing and flossing habits.
    • If your child is around age 3, we may polish their teeth (makes teeth clean and smooth).
    • Around age 4, we may take X-rays.
    • The dentist will check your child’s teeth, apply fluoride (with your OK), and explain next steps.

If your child needs care we do not offer (like braces or surgery), we will refer you to another clinic.

  • If treatment is needed

    • We will give tips to help your child have a good visit.
    • We will review treatment options and answer any questions you may have.
    • We use silver fillings and metal crowns for baby teeth.
