Banfield Pavilion features

  • Room and building: 17 single rooms, including one respite bed. 13 beds in double rooms and 36 multi-person rooms. All rooms have one washroom. There is an internal waitlist for preferred accommodation. Banfield has several outdoor patios for resident use.
  • Language, culture, religious affiliations: Residents are predominantly English and Cantonese speaking. Staff and residents reflect Vancouver’s multicultural and multi-faith population. Interpreter services are available on an as-needed basis.
  • Therapeutic recreation opportunities: Recreation Therapist provides leisure assessments and interventions  to meet residents’ recreation, leisure, and social needs. Programs are available Monday to Saturday and one evening.  Programs include bus outings, gardening, cooking, computer training, carpet bowling, exercise groups, pub afternoons with entertainment, movies, arts and crafts.  Banfield has numerous volunteers who visit residents and assist with programs.
  • Accessibility: There is no parking on site, but there is limited paid street parking. Wheelchair accessible pay parking  is available at City Square across the street. Elevators are in the building. Power wheelchairs and scooters are permitted following a safe driving assessment. Residents may be required to purchase speciality equipment (eg.specialized  wheelchair)
  • Safety and security: All outside doors are alarmed with Roam Alert system. At risk residents wear wrist bands for monitoring.  Doors locked at 8:00 p.m.  Front door access after 8 :00 p.m. is monitored. After 8:00, visitors use a buzzer to access the building.
  • Neighbourhood and community: City Square Mall, Broadway and Cambie streets have many shops and restaurants.  Bus stops and the Canada Line are located at Broadway and Cambie.

To arrange for a tour, families should call the Social Work Assistant (SWA) ahead of time by calling 604-875-4111, local 63788 from Monday to Thursday excluding stats, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
