Embracing the vision: meet the dedicated staff bringing life to the new Paul Myers Tower

​Lions Gate Hospital is building a new six-floor acute tower projected to open to patients in early 2025. The Paul Myers Tower, named after Paul Myers, a North Shore businessman and philanthropist is supporting the hospital expansion through a donation. To learn more about this exciting project, we spoke with Dr. Victor Chow, Surgeon, Urology who began his medical career as an intern at Lions Gate Hospital 30 years ago.

Canada’s first supervised consumption site celebrates 20 years of saving lives

When Insite opened in September 2003, it wasn’t just the first sanctioned site in North America for supervised injection. It was a paradigm shift. People who used illicit drugs could walk into a welcoming space with trained staff and nurses on hand to respond to overdoses, deal with immediate health issues, and provide referral to addiction treatment. Participants could sit together over a coffee in the chill room, staffed by peers. The impact was profound: overdose deaths were averted, the rates of HIV and hepatitis C due to shared needles went down, and the number of people connected to health-care and recovery went up.

Supporting health care and the Richmond Hospital Redevelopment Project

​​​Kami Randhawa is a Senior Project Manager at the Richmond Community of Care Project Management Office. This year, she supported relocating teams from Richmond Hospital to the community, freeing up essential clinical space for the Richmond Hospital Redevelopment Project. A helper by nature, Kami takes pride in her contribution to VCH’s largest capital redevelopment project. This is her story.​

Programs from the Rotunda have moved into 5 North at Richmond Hospital

​Richmond Hospital will be adding a new nine-floor acute care tower, the Yurkovich Family Pavilion, which includes a bigger emergency department, more operating rooms, an intensive care unit; a fully equipped medical imaging department; a pharmacy; and short-stay pediatrics. This will give Richmond, with its growing and aging population, the acute care it needs moving into the future.

New Dogwood Care Home opens in South Vancouver

Vancouver, B.C. – Seniors receiving long-term care now have access to a new living space in South Vancouver, as Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) welcomes the first residents to the new Dogwood Care Home. With home-style living and an innovative-care model, Dogwood Care Home will help to accommodate a growing seniors’ population and enable VCH to continue to deliver safe, quality and compassionate care for seniors in our community.

Lower Mainland Health Authorities welcome Vineyards Residence care home residents evacuated due to wildfires

Vancouver, BC (August 20, 2023) — As a result of a wildfire threat and evacuation alert in area, Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), Fraser Health and Interior Health (IH) have worked closely together to temporarily relocate residents of the Vineyards Residence assisted living and long-term care home in Kelowna to George Pearson Centre and Villa Cathay in Vancouver.
