The Paul Myers Tower, named after Paul Myers, a North Shore businessman and philanthropist is supporting the hospital expansion through a donation. To learn more about this exciting project, we spoke with Dr. Victor Chow, Surgeon, Urology who began his medical career as an intern at Lions Gate Hospital 30 years ago. Story Redevelopment projects ➞ September 14 2023 Canada’s first supervised consumption site celebrates 20 years of saving lives When Insite opened in September 2003, it wasn’t just the first sanctioned site in North America for supervised injection. It was a paradigm shift. People who used illicit drugs could walk into a welcoming space with trained staff and nurses on hand to respond to overdoses, deal with immediate health issues, and provide referral to addiction treatment. Participants could sit together over a coffee in the chill room, staffed by peers. The impact was profound: overdose deaths were averted, the rates of HIV and hepatitis C due to shared needles went down, and the number of people connected to health-care and recovery went up. Story Redevelopment projects ➞ September 7 2023 Programs from the Rotunda have moved into 5 North at Richmond Hospital Richmond Hospital will be adding a new nine-floor acute care tower, the Yurkovich Family Pavilion, which includes a bigger emergency department, more operating rooms, an intensive care unit; a fully equipped medical imaging department; a pharmacy; and short-stay pediatrics. This will give Richmond, with its growing and aging population, the acute care it needs moving into the future.
