New centre at VGH streamlines care for mental health and substance use clients

Vancouver, BC – Vancouver Coastal Health has opened a new centre to streamline access to mental health and substance use services. The Access and Assessment Centre (AAC) at Vancouver General Hospital will take pressure off emergency departments and provide a central location where clients with mental health and substance use problems can access health care services and information, including an onsite assessment.

Forensic Sexual Assault Services Planned for UBC Hospital

Vancouver – People who have been sexually assaulted will be able to access forensic services on the UBC Campus when specially trained staff from BC Women’s Hospital + Health Centre, with partners from Vancouver General Hospital and Providence Health Care, expand their services to include the UBC Hospital’s Urgent Care Centre in September 2016.

Regional Trauma Program is nation’s first to receive ‘Distinction’ award by Accreditation Canada

Vancouver, BC – The Regional Trauma Program – which includes trauma centres in Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), Providence Health Care (PHC), and Provincial Health Services Agency (PHSA) – is the first in Canada to ever be awarded ‘Distinction in Trauma Services’ by Accreditation Canada. The Trauma Distinction Award recognizes national leadership in the provision of high-quality trauma care.

B.C. gives $5 million to expand efforts to curb hepatitis C infection

VANCOUVER – The Province has provided $5 million to the St. Paul's Hospital Foundation for a research study on how to reduce new infections of hepatitis C in the province, announced Health Minister Terry Lake today, along with BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS (BCCfE) director Dr. Julio Montaner.

British Columbia develops cutting-edge system to detect HIV outbreaks

The BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS (BC-CfE), in collaboration with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), has created a first-of-its-kind system for identifying HIV transmission outbreaks in near real-time, described in an article in The Lancet HIV published today.

VCH announces new drop-in centre, expanded services for Downtown Eastside clients

Vancouver – Vancouver Coastal Health today announced plans to open a new Downtown Eastside (DTES) Mental Health and Substance Use drop-in centre that will improve and expand on support services provided to vulnerable clients in the neighbourhood, and provide stronger connections to the health care system.
